The Sennheiser m@h40 is one of my oldest headphones i still use.
Have been bought about 6 years ago (i do not remember very clearly but I think it was on 93-4 ), little after i think the Koss 20 for only multimedia usage, ie for computer and mp3 players, as advertised. What impressed me very much was their very low price , about Eu6 for the at time as afar as i remember . Found and their dealer i Greece Nakas , a national seller of musical instruments and audio equipment . and official dealer of Yamaha audio.
Another impressive with this is their production : Ireland !
The m@h40 is one of he most lightweight earphones i eve had switch just a plastic cover that is ca 1.5 mm thick and movable heads over an axe/horn of 10 cm of length and ca 2 m of cable length using a linear mode plug of 1.9 mm
Its headphones are open type full ear flat and have a relatively thick ear pad for touching to ear.
As from the side of audio it is a little peculiar
1. Its audio volume level is generally quite lower than the mini earphones. you need to add some 5-6 db of volume in order to have the same audio with other mini ears . Audio volume level is close to the most open type headphones
2. It has more trebles than most earphones of those times , lacks some bass and mid tones are slightly lower . Tha means the trebles in result go higher ...
Using on computer and testing with the AKG K66 its audio seems bass up-shifting with little more trebles and less richer audio and about 1 db lower audio! . Not to mention that K66 is still relatively trebly !
All the above make this headphones being not 100% compatible for mp3 computer listening, unless their treble quality is low . In contrast after my older Phillips mini headphones used for SW listening have been destroyed , this is my best for usage in shortwaves , as it has its audio fitted for the R75 !
Using on R75 it seems needing some more attenuation . Fortunately i have a plug-in attenuator from anm Aiwa Walkman of the older times (2000) that can lower audio from R75 up to 35 db
And from ca 2 years on , this is my most used ears.together with the K66 from Koss (these Koss 66 are used for computer )
