review of [old] AKG81DJ and test with [even older ] AKG77

 AKG DJ81 is one of my "newest" headphones but quite old as it was bought on 2017-8 It is a model that weas used for very short time and as tested with the very trebly models used on that time - a mini Sennheiser that has been used very long by my wife and then dropped in the dust due to cabling problem (the local technician advised us to replace that with newer instead of servicing that  ) she later used a model from China

For tat time the model has been left aside for very long time till last tow years when i decided to give tat to my daughter thinking that he sound was not so good for my ears.As noted in a previous post the model has been found while checking in Amazom on around 17 or 18 and finally has been ordered via the Italian site at only 18 Eu plus undefined low shipping It reached here in around 1.5 week AFAIK. The original price was around 40Eu but in an American site  it was priced at around 90USD  tat only 18Eu the  price is a real steal 

It sounded quite dull comparing to this Sennheiser model as also between i think the AKG 77 for that time , ie unclear and rather bassy 

note : the model as far as i checked the recent times is not available anymore  . it has been upgraded to the 180 DJ or something similar

 

As it can be shown the AKG 81 DJ uses a very long cable , around 2,5 m possvly good fro DJs  This is a supraural type that is kept over the ear 

A very nice design with radials of gray color . the earphones are also twisted by 120 degrees 

as with all models the arm can be detached a few cm . In the case of 81 there are something as griods that operate as 'stepped stops'  with steps of 2-3 mm The total length is around 2cm and locked by the pressure of the head Under it there is a mechanism to turn the speaker by left right but it by design can also be turned down up by a few degrees 

The design is totally plastic but there is a metallic blade in between on the over-head part This makes the arm to be rather stiff and pressy  into the head>it is also OK that after some time you adopt into that pressure 

 

The above photo shows the locking steps. All the design is very ergonomic and easy to be worn. 

Performance 

I have tested it with a older AKG model the K77 that is my replacement of the metallic 66 (again the it was littered sue to a bad technician to prefer replace than repair its cable Arghhh 

A messy table due to very many things. I recently bought a very cheap but very good audio switch with 4 ins and 4 outs from Ali at only 15Eu  (product link ). It really saved my life to continuously plug and unplug cables for testing sounds You see it over a box . Hoping to review it later There is a Q3 player with old test songs together with a personally made audio with 17 tone file to test heed- and ear-phones. At the opposite zide there is the K77 still  ion its plastic bag, even if that is used more than 7 years!

the idea was using te audio switcher in two ways : First by  cheeking the sounds in the sharer mode (connection as in the photo) and then in the switch mode - inverse cabling - to check the audio levels 

being too much adapetd to listen with the 81DJ it was rather uneasy to listen to the 77 as the sound was very different : same trebles , high lows and sub lows as part of the middle band is also strong over the 81 However after a more than 15 minutes my listening was adapted feeling better 

The original sound of 81DJ has some high deep and low lows over the voice and good highs. In other words it is quite and deeply bassy giving a feel of dead middles and upper middles

AKG77 was then heard wih better vocal and instrument presence intensifying them while listening to the music . Sound stage is the same . In many cases 77 get better in hearing but after more than 10=15 minutes the sound is felt rather "bad"  or tiring . This also  is song dependent 

Therefore the results are rather mixed , possibly due to being more accustomed to 81DJ Anyway this is my main headphone with sometimes more than 4 hours of listening..

And this report concludes m headphones collection, this is the headphone model  that's part of my computer system.And i thought that such article has been already posted  in Multiply (but after a search there i fond that never been posted !)

This  headphone  has been  found / bought in mid 2k's from an audio  equipment  store , of a friend's  for a cost of ca E30

The design is similar to other AKG's design with adjustable headphones and a belt to keep the  head. The cable length  is very similar to other's length ca 2.5 m and 1.9mm thickness stereo plug . each headphone covers your ear with a slightly  rubber sense.

Using it on computer  the sound is excellent -Cd quality -  especially with Soundblaster. Until last year 2011 when i replaced the old computer  with a new, when  i used its built in audio  card . this  new configuration lacks some clarity , tough still  the sound is quite good.

Now the test: - comparison with other headphones-  :

Comparison with  Sennheiser :  the Sennheiser is quite bassy., This AKG  sound bassier
With AKG 512 : 512  is slightly bassier than 66  with same clarity  with 66
Koss UR20 : lacks all basses !

A  set bought 6 years ago  from a  audio hardware  store with the  aim to replace the Koss UR 20 headphones ( though still working )  with  a AKG model lighter with better audio as the AKG K66 used firmly  for my l computer (this model has  great audio as  you can look at this page) : http://www.zzounds.com/item--AKGK66

This set is supposed toe a  professional model . As in the picture  the set has a sturdy  design with big sleeves  that cove  the whole  ears and are close to UR 20  design except the  added belt below the skeleton. This  can ofer  quite much  isolation to external noises The cable has length of ca 2.6 m  which is  typical for these models

Unfortunately its sound does not sound  too good for me . It is very bassy , bassier than any other headphone set  and lacks  some treble

Still using  very treble-y audio gadgets  as the Bolong radio and  the  JX 704  Aiwa  cassette player any other headphone has much pleasant audio 

Worth of a failure though it has a very nice design  !! !  2/5

AKG earphones K309

Just the latest  earphone that passed  through my hands  recently!

As you may know AKG is one of the best  headphones  company in the  world , mostly focused in studio headphones . But this company more recently also produces home audio headphones and earphones . This  set  has been  given to me from a friend  for a test . and is  the smallest number of the 3xx series

As you may see  the packing is one of the best  you can see!

And here are  the results of some experiments :

Using it with AKG 315 
-separate listening : it sounds flatter  than 315 
-in parallel with via audio splitter by using :  'drawing' a  line in between the ears  setting  as 0 the 309 and 10  for 315  audio goes to point 6. That means 309 has slightly less volume than 315  . i found that  some excess bass and treble goes to the 309


Using with Sony 755 (my main )
- using in parallel same technique  as a above  : Audio  goes to position 6 towards 755 with soem treble goes to 309 (position 4)

AKG reaphones K 311 –  demonstration

One more set that passes  from my hands for a short testing . As the person  who bought it advised me these  earphones  have been found  in a nationwide chain with computer and electronics products  at the price of 11.5 Eu (ca $13)

I have to  admit that the design of the box surpasses any other model I tested  so far. The person has already opened the package , tat is paper carton based  box , opened  frm the bottom or the top sides of it.

Upon opening it , the box can be opened and closed from the carton lid on the top side . With little chaeck , we found that the lid has a magnet on the carton bottom with two mini magnets . /.They can be found  once the lip is open!

Once opened there is a  very nice back colored keeper designed to keep intact the  ears.

 

And on the bottom of the box there is a warranty card and a notice booklet and  the necessary sponges to keep the sweat out of the earbuds (?)  .

And the ears  have a very nice  and quite slim design. As they can be seen from the pictures , except the special design , they use a near transparent plastic cover that  nearly shows the inside parts. What is also very nice on he top of the plastic  design , there is  the  logo of the company.

Also the only drawback is the plugger . As it is shown in the picture , instead of using the edgeway , they prefred to use a linear plug and wire

Now  using it:

Having tested in parallel with the Koss  earphones found that the audio is  quite good though not so bassy as the Sparkplug, exactly saying is as like a old HiFi not using the loudness switch  . Volume levels are the same and listening to them is quite nice even for long time.
