Bolong radio is the oly analog radio of the picture with enhanced view ( ie at the left)


This radio has been the results of a replacement project with a Chinese friend who lived for a short time in the student residence two years ago. He used mainly that radio in offer to listen a bit to the local radio stations but also his homeland.

I give to him a Kchibo model found from the local market mainly the 515 which is a semi digital , ie having a digital readout but is fully frequency agile. More information n this radio you will find on the chibo.pdf file along with some interesting technical info also for Bolong.


Why I am writing this report , though I have already written in the pdf? This is because with the return of the PL200 back to the factory for servicing or replacement - a total of 4 weeks – and the C330 already given to my father in the country house , using big radios as 1102 and 1103 in the road is quite uncomfortable, requiring the use of cassette sized radios only in the chest pocket of the blouse which is mostly preferable for me. All that time I had the opportunity to use and test it more than previously. I also like to listen to the music when I am walking inside the city. And it impressed me very much with its audio fidelity.


Appearance

The radio is a bit thick-y with black color and metallic mesh surface over the speaker . I never use it as I prefer to use my earphones . It is a also relatively heavy compared to the C300

There are three buttons on the front face: ON button for FM one for AM , one stereo switch and onle lock switch all locatd on the bottom right position below the display . ON the top there is a 8 band sliding switch . ON the left there is a volume control a ON off switch and a earphone connector.


There is a stereo FM light and a band light( FM or AM ) and a tuning light on the top right position.

The thumbwheel is relatively small for my fingers at 1 cm of diameter and a little hard to turn . I prer it this way so that it doe not tune out for any reason .

As in result in most bands Bolong seems to have a better sensitivity or total audio result than 1102 except the 50 mb . ON 50 mb there were superhet images from the lower part of the 41 mb that mixed with the upper part of the 60mb stations ( 6200 and up)


You read my review. This is a result of more than 10 hours of testing usage.

THis is one of the cheapest radios that could be found in the local market , found by my father. I supposed he bought  for abt Euros 5 , produced surely from China , and this radio has also a clock inside it

Here is a very simplified mini report of what iu have found  using it in a very short time and as you may understand , I fully disliked it !

Just notice  that this radio has been tested in the sub capital of Greece, a city of abt 1 million people  with oe radio station on MW and numerous stations 15 km far from the city which shown a severe noise on radio’s shortwaves Had not the opportunity to check it on Litohoron where  there is not any significant interference on Fm band
 

-good audio on MW fair on FM.
-monophonic output on ears  , ie using a earphone only from the one ear is heard
-poor sensitivity om MW  nearly no signals on SW 1 and 2 though there was quite strong level  of QRN from the local Fm stations  and supposedly from the  nearby MW station on 1431 (the polytechnics radio sation as checked in the middle ) . Very few stations  heard on SW and only on local evenings and nights
-uses A batteries  for radio AA  for the clock
-the tuning knob is relatively difficult  to tune into the bands , in case you tune out a station , and have to tune back there is some lag on the wheel ...
- I supposed the only plus for this radio  can be the battery life , possibly more than 1 month of operation!

as in result this radio is soemething out of discussion and i post here as a reference for not buying it !!

Chibo KKC 38

This is one of the  radios my father bought  and used for sometime , but seems he stopped using it due to a possibly high battery drain . the seller of this radio, ie from an electronics store has stressed him that this raio is very good with very good sensitivity  comparing to other models  I already used  as for example the  Chibo 330 or the Degen models who knew about (I mean the radio seller who is also a friend of me )

 Pretty nice model , huh ?

Any way  this radio  costed  my father  about 20 euros , 2 years ago  and seems  as a relatively good promise to my personal requirements , using a full PLL  system with digital readout and also a sleep timer 

 Above you see  how radio is tuned with small buttons . They are quite small and still require  some force as  the remain of the main display

But using it , its buttons  were quite tough to my fingers  and pushing them  required  some extra force . I don’t know  if this was  the bad of this copy or of this model in general

And below I put  my experiments in a place inside the city of Thessaloniki

MW:
-10 mem presets
- 9 kHz steps
-fair to good sensitivity on MW on nights
-fair audio  using earphones, with the  abiltiy to hear some whistles from the nearby stations (9 khz hets )
-lamp inserts  some QRN and audio volume !!
-there is spatter /qrm from  very strong stations  to 3 steps up and down , but the 500 Watt  station 700 meteres far  can cover 6 steps up and down

FM and FM 1
-steps of 100 kHz
-Fm uses  88-108 
-FM 1 uses  the Chinese band on 68-88
-Fm1 band is full of images of  21,4 (2x10.7) below is a station on 95.5 can be hed on 74.1
-monophonic audio in stereo headphones (heard in both ears ) and relatively good audio-Fair  sensitivity on FM  bands , though nearly all signals  are quite  strong inthe region ...
-lamp inserts  some audio volume too !!

 As in result radio is quite good in the MW band but posibly not so good on the FM

Amazing how cheap some of these new Chinese radios are these days, I bought a Tecsun PL-600 on ebay the other day for $60, it is dual conversion, proper PLL digital with SSB and it is very sensitive using it's telescopic antenna on shortwave, it overloads a little with an external wire antenna plugged in but the attenuator control gets around this problem! It is not in the same class as my E1 but it is still a great little radio for the price! Best wishes Zach! Michael

Just look at this  gadget . Itis a  radio with a funny for me design ! As fpr its operation i codnt have any comment since this was a defunct radio, just operating to make noise !!  The  front panel with the speaker

The top panel showing the knobs and remain . The On off button together with volume is the knob from the  left above the right LCD  panel ,and is now of the  two working knobs of the radio

Also tuning knob is working , but just two carriers can be haerd
